Midtown

Midtown Detroit is a neighborhood located just north of the downtown central business district. The unique character of this neighborhood has been developed over years of collaboration and dedication from area citizens and community stakeholders. Home to Detroit’s top medical campuses, major arts & culture establishments, leading educational institutions, and an eclectic mix of small businesses, Midtown Detroit truly has something for everyone.

Midtown is Arts & Culture

Anchored by the Detroit Institute of Arts, Midtown & New Center are home to 15 arts and cultural institutions. These institutions work hard to bring quality arts programming to the neighborhood for all to enjoy. Midtown & New Center are also home to several festivals and events such as Noel Night, DLectricity, African World Fest, Dally in the Alley, and many more that showcase art and performances of artists locally and world-wide.

Midtown is Innovation

Two major medical campuses in Detroit Medical Center and Henry Ford Health System; a public university in Wayne State University; and a leading arts school in the College for Creative studies are all located within Midtown & New Center. The presence of these institutions force collaboration and spark innovation within the neighborhood.

Hundreds of businesses call Midtown & New Center home. With everything from fast casual restaurants to fine dining, specialty retail to everyday needs & services, these neighborhoods have it all.

Midtown is Community

Midtown & New Center are full of public spaces that drive human connection and build a sense of community. There are playscapes for children to interact safely; walkways connect the neighborhood; community gardens that inspire the green-thumb in local residents; and several parks offering space for people (and their dogs) to enjoy.

Midtown Detroit, Inc. (MDI) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization created to support and enhance community and economic development in the Midtown & New Center areas through collaboration and partnerships with key stakeholders and supportive funders.
