Event Details

Enhance your cocktail making abilities through science! Flavors are created, altered, and captured using a variety of techniques, both in the kitchen, and behind the bar. An understanding of how flavors work is the key to understanding the inner workings of cocktails. In this class, we’ll look at techniques to extract flavors from herbs and spices, add complexity to existing ingredients, and use microorganisms to layer additional flavor onto familiar ingredients. We’ll also examine some strategies for pairing flavors once they are in a workable form.

The class price includes a kit with ingredients to play with flavor in 4 different ways, and ingredients to make 2 kinds of cocktails from those ingredients. Kits can be picked up at Castalia during the week preceding the event during our regular hours.

This class is targeted toward the cocktail enthusiast that wants a deeper look at the science behind cocktails. We will spend less time on cocktail making, and more time on the understanding the basis of why spirits and cocktails work.

This is a virtual online class limited to 10 connections, but multiple people can participate at each connection. Ingredient kits are sized to provide the equivalent of 2 cocktails to 2 people. The meeting link will be provided the day before the class via email.
