Detroit Shipping Company is pleased to present the work of Detroit artist Nick Pizana. A current MFA student at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Pizana approaches his art through a comic book lens. His style is characterized by bright unnatural colors, bold lines, and flat areas of paint. Pizana’s paintings range from whimsical and deconstructed, to boldly outlined and expressive. His recent work has developed from utilizing dark linework to softer shapes. His current series focuses on depictions of everyday objects; deconstructed, flattened, and reimagined into fantasy. Pizana’s backdrops of a mystical coney island and a fiery red motel straddle the striking line of ordinary and futuristic, playful, yet eerie.
